James Campbell, President, C2Works, LLC
James Campbell is a scientist with degrees in Physics and Mathematics and a wide range of experience in applied science. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degrees in Mathematics and Physics from Catawba College, Salisbury, North Carolina in 1965 and a PhD in Physics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Virginia in 1969.
Dr. Campbell began his professional career working as a nuclear physicist for the Navy’s nuclear weapons safety program. His work for the Navy included applications in neutral particle transport theory, simulations of complex nuclear environments, and weapons design and effects.
Campbell spent 8 years with INTERA Environmental Consultants (now INTERA Geoscience & Engineering Solutions) where he served as a Vice President. At INTERA, Dr. Campbell pioneered the area of computer-based litigation support for environmental litigation, managed projects to analyze risks associated with radioactive waste disposal, and developed algorithms for simulating the movement of radioactive materials in groundwater.
The largest portion of Dr. Campbell’s career (23 years) was spent at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he retired as a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff in 2006. At Sandia, he managed projects to develop a risk assessment methodology for radioactive waste disposal in support of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s development of regulations for geologic disposal of radioactive wastes. As a member of the Center for Systems Reliability, he was the original designer and developer of a suite of reliability analysis and optimization software tools that currently go under the name Pro-Opta and a simulation software toolset (known as SoSAT) for analyzing complex, multi-level, systems of systems.
Since retiring from Sandia, Dr. Campbell has developed and licensed software for stock trading and portfolio management. He has also developed a strong interest in Darwinian evolution and the theory of Intelligent Design. He and his wife currently live in North Carolina where they enjoy church activities, golf, and travel.
